Welcome

The Uganda AIDS Orphan Children Foundation (UAOCF) is a non-profit charity that helps vulnerable children and those orphaned by AIDS in Uganda.

UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) and all its global partners define an orphan as a child who has lost one or both parents1. The Sub-Saharan African nation of Uganda has an estimated 1.2 million children orphaned due to AIDS-related deaths out of a total population of almost 31 million. The magnitude of this crisis in Uganda is getting worse rather than better. The number of children who have lost one or both parents to AIDS has been increasing: the United Nations agency dedicated to responding to the AIDS epidemic (UNAIDS) estimated that the number of children living in Uganda whose parent(s) died of AIDS grew by 100,000 between 2001 and 2007. Those with a surviving parent are still extremely vulnerable: due to the nature of HIV/AIDS and how this virus is spread, it is likely that many of the surviving parents are sick and may die. HIV/AIDS is a highly stigmatized disease, and these children and any surviving parents often suffer discrimination and worse because of this stigma2.

We've created this site to draw attention to their plight, explain what we are doing to address this pressing situation and offer you an opportunity to back our efforts. UAOCF serves an area in southwestern Uganda which has tens of thousands of orphans and vulnerable children. In 2009, we supported 315 of these children, 60% of whom had lost both parents.

Thank you for visiting. We appreciate your interest and support.

How We Spend Your Money

In fiscal year 2008 97% of the donations we received went to fund operations in Uganda with 82% going to direct orphan support.

2008 Expenses

82 cents out of every dollar you send us goes directly to supporting the children we care for. The only exception is our Adopt-An-Orphan program, where 100% of your donation will be used for the care of the children. If you have any questions or comments please contact us.
